500 Million kilos of grapes are produced in La Rioja.

The breakdown of the products obtained is as follows:

• Wine: 70 - 72%
• Pomace: 10 -12%
• Lees: 3- 4%

20% of the pomace is dry pips at 10%. This amount is the equivalent of 10.5 million kilos of pips of which the Alcoholera de La Rioja produces somewhat more than half.

As well as the pips, other by-products are generated:

• Spirit Alcohol (Eau-de-vie)
• Vegetable oils from the pips.
• Bio-ethanol fuel; (Clean Energy)
• Natural tartaric acid
• Energy from the combustion of the plant mass with high calorie value, valid for complementing other waste with lower calorific power such as EDAR sludge or mushroom waste.
• Ecological organic plant fertiliser.
