life programme
What is LIFE?
The LIFE programme is the only Community funding instrument exclusively devoted to the development, implementation and improvement of European Union Environmental legislation.
In pursuit of sustainable development, the aim of LIFE is to explore new solutions for environmental problems on a Community scale, as well as to integrate the Environment into the other policies of the European Union.
Set up in 1992, the scheme is now in its third phase (2000-2004), a period during which the Environment has undoubtedly become a key aspect of European Policymaking.
LIFE is divided into three areas, Nature, Third-party countries and the Environment, the last of which forms the framework for our project.
Among the project proposals submitted by Spain, one of the chosen projects is LIFE TANNINS - Preventing the exploitation of forests by obtaining tannin extract from grape pips through recovery of a waste product of the wine industry, which the European Commission considered of great interest.
